Hailing from mysore,he has helmed a diverse array of films spanning love stories,war epics,suspense thrillers, and comedies.His cinematic repertoire, often adapted from literary works,has garnered critical acclaim and numerous awards, including 3 national awards and 9 karnataka state film awards.Notably,he served as the chairperson of the feature film jury at the 52nd international film festival of india in 2021.Alongside his sister, producer and actress vijayalakshmi singh, and brother-in-law, actor jai jagadish, he continues to shape the cinematic landscape while presiding over the karnataka chalanachitra academy as its president.

Govindaraj and S.A.Srinivas,Gowda's influence extends beyond bloodlines. As head of cinematography at L V Prasad College of Media Studies, Chennai, he imparts wisdom as a guest lecturer.
